New Car Feature: 5 Hot Hatchbacks under R150,000.

You shouldn’t be making big life decisions every time you at the petrol station, so why drive a big fuel guzzling car. Small hatchbacks are some of South Africa’s most popular cars and it’s easy to see why. They are easy to park, come with loads of cool features and won’t cost you an arm and a leg to drive or maintain.
We look at five of the most tempting new hot hatchbacks on sale for under R150,000 in South Africa today.  All of the new cars on this list come with driver and passenger airbags, ABS, front electric windows, air-con and at the minimum a radio/cd unit.
In no particular order:

Hot Hatchback No.1 – Suzuki Alto 1.0 GLX

Price – R120 900

Blue Suzuki Alto 1.0 GLX

The Suzuki Alto is an adorable little compact car and it offers the kind of styling that you’ll either love or hate. Throw in great fuel consumption, excellent safety features and a price of less than R125K and this little new car just can’t be overlooked.

Hot Hatchback No.2 - Toyota Yaris 1.0

Price – R154 400

Toyota Yaris
Toyota lands on this list with their new Yaris hatchback. With its new revised styling it comes across as more bold and masculine than the old Yaris, which some considered to be more of a girl’s car. The new car on this list has a 1.0 engine and therefore has the best claimed fuel efficiency compared to its rivals, however the small engine also means it has a very slow 0 – 100km acceleration time. At R154,400 the Yaris is a serious contender.

Hot Hatchback No.3 - Ford Figo 1.4 Trend

Price – R151 900

Blue Ford Figo

Fords entry level Figo definitely deserves a place on this list. Styling wise the Figo is based on the old Fiesta, although some minor style tweaks means it looks good both on the outside and the inside. Some people tend to think its looks are a bit cutesy and more suited to young woman but that shouldn’t stop you from buying this ford hatchback. It comes standard with Bluetooth connectivity and has been noted to be a real fun new car to drive. At R147, 900 you simply can’t get better value for money.

Hot Hatchback No.4 - Nissan Micra 1.2 Visia+

Price R130 500

Nissan Micra

If you are looking for a hatchback on a budget then you should definitely consider the Nissan Micra. The interior is a nice place to be and with a claimed combined fuel consumption of 5.2l/100km this Nissan hatchback will need less fuelling up than you think. Although the Micra’s styling won’t suit everybody it still provides real good value for money. Also worth noting is the claimed turning circle of just 9.3m curb to curb – making this little new car super easy to drive.

Hot Hatchback No.5 - Suzuki Swift 1.2GL

Price – R140 400

Suzuki Swift 1.2GL

At only R136 900 this new 1.2 litre manual from Suzuki is a real bargain. It offers decent power for such a little engine and comes packed with a host of really awesome features such as CD player with USB/AUX inputs, steering wheel controls, all round electric windows, ABS and front airbags. If you are looking for an affordable run around with attractive styling then be sure to test drive the Suzuki Swift 1.2GL.

So which new car is the best?

This is unfortunately a question only you will be able to answer. All the above new cars get you a good bang for your buck and all come standard with the main features you want in an affordable hot hatchback. Go out and test drive each new car and make your decision then because on paper they all come out in top.
